Quick Summary of Tomato Head

Since 1990, fresh quality food has been the focus at The Tomato Head. Their tagline, “FOOD GOTTA COOK, DON’T COME OUT OF A CAN!” has been their staple and secret to becoming a local favorite in Knoxville.

What began as the Flying Tomato, a five days a week lunch spot serving on paper plates with plastic forks, has evolved into The Tomato Head, with two prominent locations, in downtown Knoxville on Market Square and in West Knoxville on Kingston Pike.

About The Tomato Head

The Tomato Head believes less processed food tastes better.

Not only does it taste better, but it’s much healthier for you too. Their prep staff arrives early every morning to continue the daily tradition of preparing their house-made menu items such as soups, salsas, and salad dressings.

Your salad begins its life not when you order one but much earlier that morning. Romaine lettuce is hand sorted and rinsed, then dried in our big, fancy lettuce drier. All produce is hand-inspected and rinsed as well as chopped or sliced in house.

Their sister bakery, Flour Head Bakery, prepares all of the Tomato Head’s desserts and breads each morning. By using unbleached and unbromated King Arthur Flour, they create healthier and better-tasting pizza dough and sandwich breads.

Almost all of their proteins are nitrate/nitrite-free, all-natural and antibiotic-free. Their house-made lamb sausage is cooked in small batches to ensure freshness.

The Tomato Head can easily accommodate your dietary needs. Whether it’s a nut allergy, a preference for vegan fare or a gluten sensitivity, their staff will craft a dish to suit your tastes. Visit The Tomato Head in West Knoxville or in Downtown Knoxville today for a healthy and delicious local dining experience.

The Tomato Head

I was looking for a good gluten free restaurant to quench my hunger and this place went above my expectations. I ordered the turkey melt and wow it was delicious and filling. The bunch was made at a local bakery that it looked like a large biscuit. I love biscuits so this was a huge hit for me. The ships were corn and the salad was a Cesar. Everything tasted fresh, all natural, and made from scratch.
They have two dining experiences an outside patio that is great for dogs 🐕or the inside that has local art works on the walls. You can even watch your food being made behind a long glass window if you like too.
The whole experience was great. They staff stated the restaurant has been around 30 years but this location was about ten.
I want to thank all the staff for the great experience as it can be tough finding all gluten free non contaminated food while traveling.
The only thing I would change is the server would only say lots of people come here with a gluten allergy. Just tell me what I can eat not let me guess or find out after asking what I want to order.

I would highly recommend this restaurant for gluten free allergy.
I love eating here. The menu has a fresh edge to it. Nothing crazy, but terrific & tasting combination of foods. Staff people are courteous and helpful. Well worth what you pay for it. ✌️❣️
Since I have been eating The Tomato Head's food since the 90's, I can say it only keeps getting better! As a Chattanooga resident, I plan my drives through Knoxville to make sure I get to eat the best pizza in the world. AND now that I am gluten free, I can be assured that I get to eat the best GF pizza as well. Excellent salads, fresh ingredients, good beer and literally the pizza I dream about can be found at either location.
What in the world happened to your pizza. 2 years ago best pizza I ever ate at market square.. Went to the one on Kingston Pike yesterday... Slices were half the size.
Dough was so stiff you couldn't even bend it it was dry..mushrooms so thin could not even gooey cheese..all I tasted was the basil. 😒😥
This is a great place, with very attentive staff. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and the food is great. They give you lemons in the water cups, which is a nice touch. They have a variety of dishes to choose from, so there’s something for everyone. I would recommend this place if you want lunch or dinner and have a large group or just a few people.
