Quick Summary of Tomato Head

Since 1990, fresh quality food has been the focus at The Tomato Head. Their tagline, “FOOD GOTTA COOK, DON’T COME OUT OF A CAN!” has been their staple and secret to becoming a local favorite in Knoxville.

What began as the Flying Tomato, a five days a week lunch spot serving on paper plates with plastic forks, has evolved into The Tomato Head, with two prominent locations, in downtown Knoxville on Market Square and in West Knoxville on Kingston Pike.

About The Tomato Head

The Tomato Head believes less processed food tastes better.

Not only does it taste better, but it’s much healthier for you too. Their prep staff arrives early every morning to continue the daily tradition of preparing their house-made menu items such as soups, salsas, and salad dressings.

Your salad begins its life not when you order one but much earlier that morning. Romaine lettuce is hand sorted and rinsed, then dried in our big, fancy lettuce drier. All produce is hand-inspected and rinsed as well as chopped or sliced in house.

Their sister bakery, Flour Head Bakery, prepares all of the Tomato Head’s desserts and breads each morning. By using unbleached and unbromated King Arthur Flour, they create healthier and better-tasting pizza dough and sandwich breads.

Almost all of their proteins are nitrate/nitrite-free, all-natural and antibiotic-free. Their house-made lamb sausage is cooked in small batches to ensure freshness.

The Tomato Head can easily accommodate your dietary needs. Whether it’s a nut allergy, a preference for vegan fare or a gluten sensitivity, their staff will craft a dish to suit your tastes. Visit The Tomato Head in downtown Knoxville or in West Knoxville today for a healthy and delicious local dining experience.

The Tomato Head

Just back from an excellent dinner experience at The Tomato Head for pizza and such. I was there early, about 5pm and the crowd was very light. I ordered the garlic sticks and a pizza with pepperoni, Italian sausage, ham and extra cheese. The garlic sticks were SO good and full of tasty spices with red sauce for dipping. The pizza, as were the garlic sticks, came very quickly. Both were hot and awesome.
The wait staff was so friendly I forgot to take pictures! I am very excited to have found this place. Lots of really good vegetarian and vegan options. Very fresh foods and good beer! Highly recommended.
Great food. Service was great as well. I'm not a healthy eater but I was surprised how good it was. And no. Not everything has tomatoes with it.
This place is a really great sandwich/pizza shop. It is a really cool upscale restaurant with neat outside patio. I did not dine on the patio because it was super hot outside. I really liked the restaurants decor. The food was good - I had a sandwich with a greek salad. The service was really good. I would strongly recommend giving them a try.
Vegan pizza and cookies were great. Out of 3 beers and no liquor for an old fashion. Wait was pretty long, embarrassed to receive our order prior to a nice family that had ordered quite a bit before we did. Would come back and give it a try again in hopes it was just an off day.
