Quick Summary of The Lost Tavern

The amazing gastropub menu was designed by Justin Holleman (aka Chef Noir).

“I really like the idea of the speakeasy, prohibition-style. The food fits the theme. The salmon takes four days to prepare, twenty hours go into the pork.”

About The Lost Tavern

“It’s smoky, but the only smoke found in The Lost Tavern on Historic Market Square, Knoxville is the entertaining smoke found in the food, drink and the noir-themed atmosphere.

Whereas the other West Family establishments on Market Square focus on televised sports or live music, this one is much more about the experience and the cocktails, with some very good food rounding out the experience… Photos lining the wall and surrounding the dual bars reference the romantic era of cinematic noir and they intermingle with sensational true-crime stories from Knoxville’s mysterious history. Bartenders dress in a dapper style reminiscent of that bygone era.

In addition to classic cocktails and house barrel-aged drinks, several of the libations are served in a smoker (Old City Old Fashioned, Great Smoky Manhattan) and the aroma fills the bar. Other popular drinks include the Red Widow (who may or may not have killed her husband), the White Lady (ghost?) and Corpus Delicti (no body, no crime). Creator of the aforementioned cocktails, mixologist Blake Faircloth says all the juices used are fresh squeezed and you’ll find high-end ingredients whether you come during happy hour or later.”

the Lost Tavern

I was pleased with my visit at the Lost Tavern! My family was stopping in while on the way down South. I’ll go through each item I had and how I felt about it!

Spinach dip: on the creamier side but still really good. It comes with these cute little breads that are super soft and yummy as well.

American slides: Great combination of flavors, the pickles are specially made in the restaurant.

Pulled pork sliders: same as the other sliders, great taste. The bread is soft as well making it easy to chew unlike some restaurants.

Fries: superb. They’re perfectly crisped and the seasonings are just right!
Sunday Brunch - everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Waiter forgot several parts of the order. The waffle tasted stale, eggs were undercooked, and worst was the burnt French toast... every piece was black and I couldn’t believe it was served to us that way. We asked for it to be removed from the bill and the waiter said he removed it but never gave us an itemized receipt. And the total was still higher than we thought it should be, but I guess we will never know because we never got a receipt. I’ve never been to a restaurant and not received an itemized receipt. Terrible experience unfortunately.
Loved the atmosphere and decor.
Service and food were great.
Overall, had a pretty amazing time grabbing dinner here!
This was the best restaurant in the area. The food was incredible and the drinks were even better.

I got the red widow and it was the best cocktail I ever have had.
The atmosphere is dull and dated. It can't decide between log cabin, european tavern, or 20s dinner. The service was very slow and I only saw my server when he was there to tell me my food wouldn't be much longer. I waited 20 minutes for pretzels and cheese dip. The pretzels were hard and dripping with oil. The cheese dip was gritty and lacking any real flavor. I waited another 30 minutes before my 2 sliders and fries arrived. The sliders we're good. They were well cooked and had a good flavor. The fries were also good. I might come back if I were wanting to sit down and planned on wasting some time for the day. This is not a date restaurant and certainly not a quick bite to eat. The pricing of the food is a little high for what you got and the service provided. I did not leave hungry but I wasn't that hungry to start with. If I came back I would not order the pretzels again. There were just no redeeming qualities for the tiny and flavorless $10.00 pretzels. The sliders we're good enough to order again. At the end of the day The Lost Tavern is nothing to write home about and I do not think I would come back unless I absolutely had to.
