At the Residences at Eastport, for Knoxville's Community Development Corporation, BMA renovated the Eastport Elementary School and designed new buildings onsite to provide senior-living apartments.

The design is modern and accessible, but coordinates with the architecture of the existing school. The project was the first multi-family residential project in Knoxville to be LEED: Platinum. This was a joint venture with Sanders Pace Architecture.

Did you know? The Cleveland State Community College Health Science Center will be the first new classroom building on that campus in 40 years! The exterior design takes cues from the other mid-century buildings on campus while incorporating modern and regional design elements like brick, metal panels, stone and wood accents.

The Student Union at University of Tennessee, Knoxville was the largest construction project in the campus' history, completed in two phases

It houses student services, the campus bookstore, dining and restaurant facilities, an auditorium, ballroom, classrooms and administrative offices. The interior design incorporates graphics that explain the University's history, as well as a three-story torch sculpture in the atrium — featuring hand-blown glass from Knoxville's Pretentious Beer Co.

Finally, some Facebook worthy news. Love it. Beautiful architecture.

It's our final BMA Team Tuesday!

Over the last few months, we've introduced you to all of our amazing employees ... and this week, meet Heather Beck.

Heather’s background in PR, marketing, technical writing and journalism gives her a unique perspective as a communications professional. She enjoys learning about architecture and design and translating architects’ passion for their work into articulate storytelling. When she’s not working, Heather is gardening, baking, attempting to train her rescue pups, or hosting a weekly game night.

At East Tennessee Children's Hospital, BarberMcMurry designed an expansion to the downtown campus to house surgery and NICU suites, as well as space for future expansion.

The interiors are bright and youthful but not childish. Vibrant art is integrated throughout the design, which also features a rooftop garden for families.

Shepley Bulfinch was our design consultant.

It's BMA Team Tuesday!

Each week, we introduce one of our amazing employees, and this week, he's also our newest employee. Meet Trey McMillon!

Trey brings to BMA an interest in urban planning and community design. His work has included multiple design competitions, including SYNC NYC — which generated ideas for providing affordable housing options to 25 small and undeveloped lots throughout New York City. His entry for the Passageways 2.0 competition in Chattanooga was honored as a design jury finalist. Locally, he is involved with PARK(ing) Day Knox. When not in the office, Trey can be found walking his dog around downtown Knoxville or cooking new recipes in his kitchen.

Love meeting the employees and learning their background. I have a suggestion on maybe once a quarter do a “little history” on the past generations at.BMI.

We are so thankful for your team’s dedication to this project!

It's in the details.

At Gastrointestinal Associates, our design is a sculptural expression in the landscape, with detailed patterns in the brick facade as well as prominent windows that provide sunlight and views.

The building is also an example of stewardship, with an array of solar panels and a dynamic framing strategy that minimizes heat transfer.
