Whether you have just a few hours or an entire weekend, Knoxville offers activities for the entire family to enjoy. Let’s take a look at eight exciting ways to experience downtown Knoxville.

1. World’s Fair Park

Whether you have lived in Knoxville your entire life or you are visiting for a weekend, you must visit the World’s Fair Park. This is home to the Sunsphere, which was built for the 1982 World’s Fair. You can ride up to the observation deck and receive a stunning view of the downtown area, the Tennessee River, and the Smoky Mountains in the distance.

2. The Farmer’s Market

If you love fresh produce, unique crafts, and delicious goods, you must visit the Farmers’ Market located at Market Square. The market runs every Wednesday and Saturday from May through November. To make the experience a little easier, you can view the vendor map online to find your favorite goods quickly.

3. Historic Market Square

If you want to truly experience downtown Knoxville, you must visit the historic Market Square. This is the hub of the downtown area and it features dozens of unique restaurants and shops to explore. Plus, during the evenings and the weekends, the area comes alive with performers, festivals, events, and more.

4. Concerts on the Square

If you love live music, warm summer nights, and amazing food, you can’t miss the free Concerts on the Square series. Every Tuesday and Thursday evening from May until August, you can pull out your blankets and lawn chairs and relax in downtown Knoxville. This is a great event for the entire family, and did we mention it’s free?

5. Friday Art Walk

During the first Friday of every month, walk the streets of downtown Knoxville and soak in the amazing art exhibits in the community. You can visit several art galleries and studios throughout the area and view exhibits by local artists. You won’t want to miss the delicious food and drink vendors along with the live music. It’s a party your eyes and your taste buds will enjoy.

6. Shopping

Regardless of what your shopping list entails, you will find it in one of the many shops that line the streets in downtown Knoxville. There are stores filled with antiques and vintage items, clothing, and products made by local vendors.

7. Knoxville Visitors’ Center

If you are ready to learn all you can about Knoxville, stop by the Knoxville Visitors’ Center. Located just a short distance from Market Square, it not only provides tons of information about attractions and events, but visit during the lunch hour to enjoy live music and entertainment.

8.  Walking Tours

Increase your heart rate and explore the downtown area on a Knoxville walking tour. These tours are led by experienced tour guides who will teach you all about the remarkable history and beauty of the area. If a guided tour isn’t on your bucket list, consider a self-guided tour as well.

No matter what your interests are, there is something for you to enjoy and see in the downtown Knoxville area. Spend some time indulging in the delicious food, view the scenery, visit the shops, and experience Knoxville in a new and unique way.
