There’s nothing like a good date night with someone you enjoy spending time with. Whether you’re married and need a break from the kids or you’re dating and trying to take your relationship to the next level, a date night gives you a chance to relax, have fun, and connect.
If you live in Knoxville, you probably already know there are plenty of places to go and things to do. However, you may not know some of the more unique places where you can have a date night you’ll be talking about for weeks to come. Here are our top five choices for date nights in Knoxville she’ll truly love.
1. Knoxville First Friday
If your significant other is a fan of the arts, you definitely have to take her to First Friday. Held in the downtown area, First Friday features galleries, outdoor displays of art, and live music as well as plenty of options to stop in and have a bit to eat or a relaxing drink.
Held the first Friday of every month, you can introduce each other to new local artists, pick up a painting to decorate your home, or just get better acquainted with the lively culture that exists in the downtown Knoxville area. Make sure you stop into The Emporium Center at the heart of the Arts District for darkroom demonstrations, live dancing, and even a few sweet treats.
The event is held from 5 to 9 pm and is free—so you can save all that date money for an awesome meal or new piece of artwork.
2. Take Her to See Knoxville’s First Winery
Venture down to the Historic Southern Railway Station to check out Knoxville’s first winery! The Blue Slip Winery and Bistro features lunch and dinner as well as tastings, live concerts, and coordinated events with Knoxville food trucks.
You can explore the operation while learning more about the wine-making process and maybe even discover a new favorite drink. The menu was created by Hell’s Kitchen participant Chef Carol Scott and is complemented by a full bar just in case you or your partner don’t particularly care for wine.
There’s free on-site parking and it’s close to everything else downtown has to offer so you can enjoy a full evening of entertainment.
3. Hit a Museum and a Unique Restaurant
What woman can resist some history paired with an amazing meal? Knoxville has some excellent museums that are perfect for date night. Consider the McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture, located on the University of Tennessee campus, or the Knoxville Police Department Museum.
You can learn more about our world and our city while enjoying each other’s company and coming up with some lively discussion topics. After filling up with culture and interesting facts, you can relax with a glass of wine and some delicious food at one of Knoxville’s famous restaurants.
4. Have Dinner Aboard a Riverboat
Dine while being entertained by onboard entertainment, all while taking in the sights of the Tennessee River when you plan your next date night on The Star of Knoxville. Featuring a different type of dinner cruise every night of the week (we recommend the murder mystery cruise on Thursday or the prime rib cruise on Saturday), you’ll be able to see the city like you never have before.
If you don’t want to eat on-board, you can also choose a sight-seeing cruise and learn more about the Civil War or about the history of the city. Lunch cruises and special occasion cruises are also available. Make sure you buy your tickets early so you don’t end up missing out on a seat, especially if you’re planning to attend one of the popular weekend dinner cruises.
5. Experience Broadway without Leaving Knoxville
You don’t need to hop a flight to New York City to see a Broadway show. Knoxville’s Tennessee Theatre features over 150 events each year, including Broadway smashes like Kinky Boots and The Book of Mormon as well as events like Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker. A world-class performing arts center, the theatre underwent a $25.5 million restoration in 2005 and there’s no better atmosphere in which to enjoy your date night. Located downtown, it’s near tons of fabulous bars and restaurants so you can make your night out complete.
Don’t waste your next hard-earned date night on a boring movie or a night of Netflix. Knoxville has plenty of unique options for every couple including art-lovers, wine connoisseurs, or those who just want to learn a little more about their city while enjoying a cold beverage. Choose one of the above five outings for a night neither of you will soon forget.
