The Tennessee Smokies is a Hidden-Gem for Sports Fan Here’s 10 Former Tennessee Smokies in the MLB

Many great things come out of Tennessee, including baseball players. The Tennessee Smokies, the minor league baseball team, has seen many players begin and expand their career playing in beautiful Knoxville. In fact, dozens of Smokies alumni have been named to a Major League All-Star Team. Let’s take a look at just 10 famous baseball players that have worn the Tennessee Smokies’ uniform.

1. Yadier Molina

Yadier Molina was a catcher for the Smokies back in 2003. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals and has won two World Series Championships with the team —in 2006 and in 2011.

2. Kris Bryant

Kris Bryant, a former third baseman for the Smokies, currently plays for the Chicago Cubs. He plays third base and outfield for the Cubs. He is one of several Smokies alumni who played for the Chicago Cubs when they won the 2016 World Series.

3. Javier Baez

Javier Baez is a Chicago Cubs second baseman but once played for the Smokies. He was on the team when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016 and was also listed as the National League Player of the Week in July 2018.

4. Kyle Hendricks

Kyle Hendricks is currently a pitcher for the Chicago Cubs and is known among fans as “The Professor.” He made his major league debut in 2014 and was awarded National League Rookie of the Month in August 2014 and helped lead the Cubs to the World Series in 2016.

5. Jake Arrieta

Jae Arrieta is another pitcher who previously played for the Tennessee Smokies. He has played for several teams including the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Cubs and currently pitches for the Philadelphia Phillies.

6. Starlin Castro

Starlin Castro began playing in the minor leagues back in 2007 and stepped onto the field with the Smokies in 2009. In 2010, he moved to the major leagues playing for the Chicago Cubs and then the New York Yankees. In 2018, he began playing for the Miami Marlins.

7. DJ LeMahieu

DJ LeMahieu played for the Smokies in 2011 as a middle infielder. He was drafted to the Cubs but later transferred to the Colorado Rockies in 2012. In 2016, he had a .348 batting average.

8.  Chris Archer

Chris Archer is known for his strong arm.

This pitcher has quite an extensive career after pitching in the minor leagues beginning in 2006 and then moving to the major leagues in 2012. He currently pitches for the Tampa Bay Rays.

9. Chris Coghlan

Chris Coghlan is another Smokies alumni who boasts an extensive career. In 2009, he was drafted by the Miami Marlins and has since played for the Chicago Cubs, Oakland Athletics, and The Toronto Blue Jays.

10. Addison Russell

Addison Russell played for the Tennessee Smokies in 2014 and is currently an infielder for the Chicago Cubs. He played on the Cubs when they won the World Series Championship in 2016 and was a National League All-Star in 2016.
